Metro Line No. 1 The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien will complete all construction work and officially begin commercial operations by the end of Q4 2024, according to the latest decision by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee,
Ho Chi Minh City Deputy Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong recently signed the approval for adjusting the completion timeline of Metro Line No. 1, extending the completion date to the end of Q4 2024. Other aspects of the project remain unchanged, consistent with previous decisions approved by the relevant authorities.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee requires the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), the project investor, to fulfill commitments regarding the timeline and to ensure the completion of construction and full operational launch by the end of Q4. To achieve this goal, MAUR must develop a detailed plan, closely monitor the remaining tasks, and ensure that all involved parties are clearly held accountable to avoid any complications. MAUR is also advised to identify potential risks and prepare preventive measures.
Additionally, the People’s Committee emphasizes that MAUR must proactively address issues with contractors who have lodged complaints, preventing these matters from dragging on and affecting the project’s progress.
Another critical requirement set by the Committee is that no additional costs arise from the extended construction period. Should there be any additional expenses, the project investor and relevant parties must devise solutions in accordance with legal regulations.
Previously, Metro Line No. 1 was scheduled for completion by the end of Q4 2023; however, as of now, the work progress has reached only 98%. Some key components remain unfinished, leading to the decision to extend the project’s completion to the end of 2024, allowing for continued disbursement and acceptance testing of the project.

Metro Line No. 1 spans 19.7 km, including 2.6 km of underground tracks and 17.1 km of elevated tracks, with a total adjusted investment of VND 43,700 billion. The line passes through central districts of Ho Chi Minh City, such as District 1, Binh Thanh, and Thu Duc City, as well as part of Binh Duong Province (Di An). It comprises 14 stations in total, including 3 underground stations at Ben Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, and Ba Son, along with 11 elevated stations.
Currently, the metro line has reached 98% completion, with the final steps being expedited to ensure the project is ready for operation within the newly established timeline.
