The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a decision to establish a council for appraising the pre-feasibility study report of the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway project, chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy.
The council consists of 15 members, including leaders from MOT’s departments and the Vietnam Railways Corporation, with Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy serving as chairman. The council is tasked with reviewing and evaluating the content of the pre-feasibility study report before submitting it to the Prime Minister for approval.
Previously, the Railway Project Management Board submitted the pre-feasibility study report of the project to MOT for consideration.

The Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway project is designed to start at Thu Thiem Station (An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) and end at Long Thanh Airport (Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province). This railway line will connect Ho Chi Minh City’s center to Long Thanh Airport, following the standards of a double-track railway with a track gauge of 1,435 mm, an axle load of 16 tons/axle, and an electrified system.
The designed speed for the main line is 120 km/h, and 90 km/h in tunnels, while the maximum operating speeds are 110 km/h on the main line and 80 km/h in tunnels. The line’s carrying capacity is estimated at 30,000 to 40,000 passengers per hour per direction.
The main line stretches 41.83 km in length, with an additional 4.4 km leading to the depot. It includes 40.67 km of elevated tracks (viaducts and river crossings), 15.13 km of underground tracks, and 0.43 km on the ground.
The entire line features 20 stations (16 elevated and 4 underground), one depot located in Cam Duong Commune, Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province, and a train yard with maintenance and cleaning facilities in Thu Thiem.
The project’s total investment is estimated at approximately VND 84,752 billion, equivalent to USD 3.454 billion.
